Description
The Byrna SD (Self Defense) is the successor of the Byrna HD. It has been re-engineered for optimal performance. Powered by compressed air (CO2), the Byrna SD shoots .68 caliber round kinetic and/or chemical irritant projectiles that can disable a threat from up to 60-feet away. It is an incredibly powerful and non-lethal self-defense weapon.

The Byrna SD is not classified as a firearm therefore does not require a permit or background check to own. Must be 18 or older to purchase.

How many shots can you get from one CO2 cartridge in a Byrna?

Shot count per CO2 cartridge varies by Byrna model and cartridge size. The Byrna SD and CL use 8g CO2 cartridges and deliver approximately 20–25 shots per cartridge. The Byrna LE uses 12g CO2 cartridges and fires up to 35 rounds per cartridge. The Byrna TCR uses 12g CO2 and gets 17+ shots. The Mission 4 uses large 88g CO2 canisters and fires 50–60 rounds per canister. Shot count can vary based on temperature — cold weather reduces CO2 pressure and may lower velocity and shot count. Always keep spare cartridges on hand.

Choose the Byrna SD ($379.99) if you want an excellent all-around self-defense launcher at a lower price point — it delivers 300 fps with 60-foot range and is ideal for personal carry and basic home defense. Choose the Byrna LE ($479.99) if you want maximum handheld power — it fires 60% faster at 340 fps with 80-foot range and 35 shots per CO2 cartridge. The LE also has a smoother trigger, upgraded white dot sights, and 7-round magazines. For most California civilians, the SD provides excellent protection. Security professionals and those prioritizing maximum stopping power should upgrade to the LE.
